Summary
Join Biffa Waste Services as a Landfill & Gas Development Manager and play a key role in expanding landfill gas (LFG) infrastructure and optimizing leachate systems across regional sites. This remote position, with occasional UK travel, requires collaboration with various teams to enhance LFG collection, maximize electricity generation, and manage budgets. You will be responsible for improving site performance, ensuring contractor compliance, and maintaining regulatory compliance. The role involves both short- and long-term projects, demanding occasional urgent responses to meet environmental regulations and profit targets. This position reports directly to the General Manager.
Requirements
- Hold a Degree in Engineering (or equivalent practical experience)
- Possess proven project management experience, including budget management (P&L, CAPEX)
- Have extensive experience in landfill gas control and utilization
- Demonstrate an understanding of environmental and regulatory legislation
- Possess strong IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Hold a full current driving license
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior and local Landfill & Gas management teams to install and enhance LFG collection systems, improving long-term business performance and profitability
- Increase engine efficiency by strategically relocating generators to high-yield locations
- Prepare and monitor regional business plans and capital expenditure budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and achieving profit targets
- Improve site performance by managing leachate systems, optimizing chemical usage, power consumption, and gas production
- Ensure all contractor activities adhere to Biffaβs Contractor Control procedures
- Implement programs to regularly update infrastructure plans, ensuring robust environmental, health, and safety standards
- Ensure all installations meet DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) compliance
- Assist operational teams in day-to-day tasks and urgent issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Hold an IOSH qualification (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health)
- Be a Member of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers
- Have knowledge of leachate treatment and management systems
- Have High and Low Voltage experience
