DevOps Engineer

Summary

The job is for a Core Infrastructure Engineer at Wattpad, where you will work on the infrastructure and processes that power Wattpad. You will manage Kubernetes Clusters, work day-to-day in AWS environment, build IaC, create workflows to manage deployments across multiple environments, support developers, design, build, and maintain functionality on a large-scale distributed system, improve reliability and performance of core components, define best practices, provide mentorship, research new technology, and advocate for the adoption of best practices.

Requirements

• Orchestrated containers using ECS, EKS and/or self-managed Kubernetes
• 3+ years of experience in a prior SaaS engineering role
• You’ve worked with cloud platforms as a service (AWS, GCP, etc.) for at least 3 years
• You are comfortable and familiar with programming concepts
• You have experience writing automation in one or more scripting languages. (Bash/Python etc.)
• You are familiar with a containerization framework (Docker/ContainerD)

Responsibilities

• Create and work on the infrastructure and processes that powers Wattpad
• Manage and maintain Wattpad’s Kubernetes Clusters and their dependencies
• Work day-to-day in the AWS environment
• Build and maintain Wattpad’s IaC
• Create workflows to manage deployments across multiple environments
• Support and guide developers by creating testing and deployment standards
• Design, build, and maintain functionality on a large-scale distributed system serving millions of people per day
• Improve reliability and performance of core components and existing systems
• Define best practices and provide mentorship and support to other engineers
• Research and implement new technology to solve tomorrow’s scaling issues
• Advocate for the adoption of best practices, systems and tools across the engineering org

Preferred Qualifications

• You have worked with AWS, EKS, RDS and ECR
• You have managed EKS using managed nodegroups
• You have experience with monitoring distributed systems at scale
• You have extensive experience with Terraform
• You have experience with GitHub workflows and related tools
• You have or are currently mentoring other engineers
