Summary

Join Avalere Health as the Director of Data Engineering and lead the development of a modern, scalable data platform. Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to build robust data pipelines and data assets using GCP and Snowflake. Drive data engineering initiatives, integrating multiple data sources and harmonizing data models. Lead a team of engineers, overseeing project delivery and ensuring data ecosystem reliability. Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering, with expertise in complex SQL, data modeling, and performance optimization across large-scale relational databases
  • 2+ years of experience designing and automating ETL pipelines using tools such as dbt, Airflow, and custom API integrations
  • Proficient in modern data platforms including Snowflake, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), BigQuery, and PostgreSQL
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, cloud infrastructure, IAM, encryption, and governance standards
  • Skilled in using Git, CI/CD pipelines, and software development lifecycle practices to support reliable and scalable data deployments
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions, with clear technical documentation and strong stakeholder communication
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker) and advanced proficiency in SQL and Excel
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience delivering insights and strategy support to both technical and executive stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field β€” or equivalent professional experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead application support services for data analytics platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, and others
  • Manage internal engineering teams and partner with external vendors to ensure operational excellence and platform reliability
  • Oversee day-to-day support operations, break/fix routines, and performance monitoring of analytics tools and data platforms
  • Work in close collaboration with business leadership to define and execute the analytics agenda
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives by developing and monitoring performance metrics
  • Lead the design and implementation of data architecture layers including ingestion, transformation, unification, and consumption
  • Support the development of analytics database structures, including tables, views, and schemas, ensuring scalability and performance
  • Execute efficient, well-documented SQL development for analytics and BI applications
  • Gather, assess, and interpret data from transactional databases, operational data stores, external systems, and reporting environments
  • Maintain high standards of data quality, identifying and resolving data integrity issues in collaboration with IT and QA teams
  • Work cross-functionally with data scientists, business analysts, project managers, media operations, and QA teams to deliver holistic data solutions
  • Create and maintain thorough technical documentation of all data engineering processes and solutions
  • Actively contribute to code reviews and promote best practices in data engineering and development
  • Identify opportunities for automation, efficiency, sustainability, and standardization in data workflows
  • Stay current with industry trends and lead the evaluation and adoption of new technologies and frameworks
  • Support the implementation of data governance, compliance, and security best practices (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA)
  • Collaborate with QA teams to ensure data accuracy, robust test coverage, and ongoing quality improvements
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement solutions to support data engineering objectives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with marketing analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Campaign Manager, Facebook Ads) and associated data structures
  • Industry experience with healthcare data and understanding of related compliance frameworks including HIPAA, GDPR, and CCPA
  • Experience working in hybrid Agile/Waterfall environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams including data science, QA, and business analysts
