Summary
Join MagicSchool, a leading generative AI platform for teachers, as the Director of Information Technology (IT) & Security. Build and lead the IT and information security functions from the ground up, ensuring reliable, secure, and scalable systems. Manage infrastructure, incident response, and advise on strategic technology decisions. Report directly to the COO and play a critical role in shaping operational infrastructure. This hands-on individual contributor role requires managing a helpdesk, developing technology policies, overseeing vendor management, and training the team. You will also develop and manage a comprehensive security program aligned with industry standards and EdTech regulations.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in information technology and security, with proven experience executing complex projects in a startup environment
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks (SOC 2, NIST, ISO 27001) and EdTech regulations (FERPA, COPPA)
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high-impact projects with a high level of ownership and attention to detail
- Excellent ability to simplify complex security topics and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization

- Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive security program aligned with industry standards (SOC 2, NIST, ISO 27001) and EdTech regulations (FERPA, COPPA)
- Lead and execute complex IT and security projects, ensuring effective management and timely delivery in a fast-paced startup environment
- Collaborate closely with engineering, product, legal, and other teams to integrate security across all operations and communicate risks and strategies clearly to the organization
