Summary

Join Wealthsimple's Regulatory Team as the Director, Legal (Wealth Management) and help build their innovative wealth management product suite. This role requires a law degree and 5-8 years of experience in securities and/or corporate law. You will provide legal and regulatory advice, negotiate and draft agreements, oversee governance and risk matters, and advise on Canadian securities laws. The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical and communication skills, along with project management abilities. Requirements

  • A law degree and minimum 5-8 years of experience in securities and/or corporate law, gained at a major Canadian law firm or an in-house corporate legal department
  • Asset management expertise, including experience launching private funds, ETFs and/or mutual funds
  • Familiarity with the regulation of Canadian capital markets intermediaries, including investment dealers, investment fund managers, portfolio managers, custodians, trustees and index providers
  • Rigorous analytical skills and ability to proactively issue spot and problem solve
  • Skills to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences
  • Project management and organizational skills that can be used to balance competing priorities

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice that enables the development and execution of our wealth management roadmap, including providing advice related to establishing and optimizing private alternative funds, ETFs and managed investing products
  • Work closely across related functions, including with our Product, Investment Research, Compliance and Operations teams on the launch of new product offerings and services, and provide ongoing support and advice for existing operations
  • Negotiate and draft agreements and disclosure for Wealthsimpleโ€™s wealth management products, including investment management agreements, fund subscription agreements, sub-advisory agreements, offering memoranda, prospectuses, client brochures, fund facts, client account agreements and other account opening documents
  • Overseeing and advising on governance and risk matters related to our funds, including organizing IRC meetings and board approvals
  • Provide advice in connection with Canadian securities laws, including National Instrument 31-103, National Instrument 81-102 and CIRO rules

Preferred Qualifications

Fluency in French an asset
