Director of Engineering

Summary

Join onX as a Director of Engineering and lead cross-functional teams to shape the future of off-pavement mobile experiences. Oversee vertical engineering teams focused on various customer experiences across different business lines. This role involves mentoring engineers, building high-quality software, hiring talented individuals, and collaborating with multiple teams. Requirements

• 5+ years in a leadership role, managing and scaling engineering, and 8+ years of experience in software engineering
• Proven track record of delivering customer solutions
• Proven track record delivering solutions to help enable product and engineering teams
• Communicate well with executives and non-technical leaders
• Strong computer science foundation
• Experience working closely with mobile developers and mobile products
• Want to work with other happy, talented engineers
• Fun to work with
• Can work in ambiguous environments and different stages of a product lifecycle

Responsibilities

• Make great engineers better. Support your teammates with individual goal-setting, professional development and mentoring
• Make great software. Work with your team and/or multiple teams to ensure you’re delivering maintainable, high-quality, customer-focused products. Lead your team in design, development, testing, deployment, and operations
• Build great teams. Work closely with your peers to hire smart, creative and kind engineers and managers. Be responsible for hiring talented iOS, Android, web, and backend engineers for the team. Also be responsible for hiring managers for the engineering organization and product organization
• Collaborate. Manage dependencies between functional teams and facilitate collaboration. This team builds key features used in all of our apps. Make considerations to serve all of onX’s customers. Build a strong relationship with Product, Product Design and your team’s stakeholders. Work well across multiple teams, and across all of engineering to drive outcomes from a single team or multiple teams
• Leadership. Drive a project by yourself or direct multiple teams and leaders to a desired outcome. Work throughout the organization and help solve problems in all parts of the organization
• Communicate. Err on the side of over-communicating. Help teams work efficiently together. Work closely with the team’s product manager and engineers to set ambitious, but attainable goals and plan a sequence to get from where we are to where we want to be. Communicating and coordinating your team’s goals will be key to successfully working with other teams and moving the company forward together

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with mapping technology
• Experience working both with startups and larger growth companies
• B.S. or M.S. in computer science or a related field or experience
