Requirements

• Proven editing experience in a fast-paced newsroom
• A deep understanding of the South and how politics, business, tech and culture impact the region
• Ability to assign and manage multiple stories at once
• Confidence working in a remote-first environment
• Experience managing reporters at varying levels of seniority
• A belief in Smart Brevity as the core style of Axios

Responsibilities

• Oversee and edit the production of daily local news coverage in Axios Local's cities in the South
• Work with reporters to help shape stories and edit in Smart Brevity
• Assist with research on important topics, events, and trends driving the conversation
• Write stories and newsletter items in partnership with reporters when needed
• Manage multiple reporting teams in cities across the South

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferably is located in the South with a deep sense for the culture
• Experience editing daily newsletters is a plus
