Engineering Manager

Summary

Join Airbnb's Partner Ecosystem team as an Engineering Manager and lead the design of the company's platform strategy for third-party integrations. You will collaborate with senior technical leaders, work with your engineering team to design system architecture, make key technology decisions, and mentor top engineers. A typical day involves gathering requirements, setting vision, designing architecture, making technology choices, mentoring engineers, and shaping the software development lifecycle. You will share your team's work with Airbnb tech leadership and influence product strategy. This role offers significant impact on Airbnb's platform and its ability to connect with external capabilities and marketplaces.

Requirements

• 9+ years of experience with at least 3-5+ years of managing an engineering team in a fast paced tech environment
• Strong expertise in building large-scale backend systems and experience in user facing features, ideally related to messaging platform and products
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Proven experience working with many engineering teams and cross functional partners
• Flexible in leadership style, can adapt to a variety of ways of working depends on the situation
• Experience leading and shipping large initiatives with high business impact
• Creating a strong culture of operational excellence with focus on raising the bar for quality, reliability and availability
• Good judgment in making tradeoffs to balance short-term business needs with long-term technical quality
• Strong communication skill and ability to influence decisions from a wide variety of stakeholders
• Experience fostering an inclusive and engaging team environment
• Able to identify, retain, grow and acquire critical talent

Responsibilities

• Gather requirements and set the vision for our 3p partnership platform that will have Airbnb-wide impact
• Work with your engineering team to design the system architecture, existing and future, for the platform
• Make the right decisions about technology choices
• Mentor top engineers across the organization, establish and demand best practices through your engineering leadership
• Immerse yourself in the team’s entire software development lifecycle and have a hands-on impact in shaping the process
• Share your team’s work with Airbnb tech leadership, get buy-in, and influence product strategy across Airbnb to use your awesome platform
