Summary
Join Canva's Messaging Surfaces team as a Team Lead, coaching and mentoring a team of frontend and backend engineers. You will guide the team in solving ambitious technical problems, contribute to the product roadmap, and drive the delivery of large-scale initiatives. The role requires experience in technical leadership, software development, and strong problem-solving skills. Requirements
- Previous experience in technical people leadership and mentorship of engineers
- Commercial experience in a software development environment, ideally with experience in building frameworks, libraries or APIs
- Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including concurrency, multithreading, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns
- Previous experience in working collaboratively with cross functional team members and communicating effectively
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others
Responsibilities
- Coach, mentor, and grow a team of frontend and backend engineers
- Develop your coaching capability to scale the team and meet the needs of the growing messaging platform vision
- Work alongside the technical lead to facilitate solving some of the most ambitious technical problems, and guiding the team to deliver results
- Work closely with the Product Manager to understand and contribute to the product roadmap
- Drive the planning and refinement of seasonal goals, ensuring there is alignment between the company, group, and teams
- Foster a culture of collaboration and advocate for the engineering needs of non-technical collaborators within the group
- Own and drive the delivery of large, cross-team, and cross-group initiatives and projects from ideation to completion, with autonomy and independence of decision making
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in some of these [Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, MobX] would be valuable but is not required
- Experience with experimentation would be beneficial, but not mandatory
