Engineering Manager

Summary

Join BambooHR as a Software Engineering Manager and contribute to the development of our next-generation HR software application. Manage 1-2 scrum teams (6-15 engineers), providing coaching and mentoring. Collaborate with product management, UX designers, and tech leads to deliver software solutions. Maintain your team's execution roadmap and ensure accountability in performance. Participate in hiring and contribute to process improvements. This remote position requires 10+ years of software development experience, object-oriented development expertise, and proficiency with MySQL/MSSQL. Demonstrable technical leadership is essential.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software development
• Object-Oriented development experience
• MySQL/MSSQL - both query language and database structure/design
• Version control software, preferably Git
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
• 2+ years of real-world, demonstrable technical leadership

Responsibilities

• Manage 1-2 scrum teams of Software Engineers. 6-15 individuals
• Demonstrate leadership and patience through regular coaching and mentoring in individual and team settings
• Consult with Product Management, UX Designers and Tech Leads to explore and deliver software solutions
• Manage and maintain your team’s execution roadmap, including a grooming pipeline and delivery expectations
• Show and maintain accountability in team and individual performance (yours and others) in sprint goals and quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
• Participate in department hiring efforts
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our systems and processes

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in documenting processes and monitoring performance metrics
• Knowledge of best practices related to data storage and access at high volume
• Services development in a language like PHP, Python, Java, or C#, and a desire to work in PHP (7.4+)
• Experience in React, HTML, XML, JavaScript, CSS
• Experience in developing Software as a Service (fast release cycles that still support an existing user base)
• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related degree or formal training in a related field
