Join Pulumi's Languages & SDKs group as an Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of engineers, shape product and technical strategy, and drive delivery and quality. You will mentor and develop a distributed team, recruit top talent, and foster a collaborative culture. Responsibilities include defining and owning the team roadmap, translating customer feedback into technical priorities, and overseeing project planning. You will also champion open-source engagement, representing Pulumi within the community and with customers. Collaboration with other engineering teams and support teams is crucial. The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience leading software engineering teams and a deep understanding of cloud platforms and infrastructure-as-code.
Requirements
- 8+ years leading software engineering teams and mentoring senior-level talent
- Hands-on experience designing, building, and shipping SDKs or language integrations
- Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code
- Strong problem-solving skills: first-principles thinking, graph algorithms, dependency resolution
- Excellent communicator able to engage engineers, product teams, and executives
Responsibilities

- Facilitate technical career development, performance reviews, and hands-on coaching
- Recruit top talent and create an inclusive, collaborative culture
- Shape Product and Technical Strategy
- Define and own the team roadmap in partnership with Product and Leadership
- Translate customer and community feedback into technical priorities
- Balance innovation (new language support, distributed systems primitives) with quality, performance, and reliability
- Evaluate technical trade-offs: backwards compatibility, performance, test coverage, and API ergonomics
- Drive Delivery and Quality
- Oversee project planning: set clear milestones, manage cross-functional dependencies, and remove blockers
- Establish and reinforce best practices for design reviews, automated testing, performance benchmarking, and documentation
- Monitor team metrics (velocity, quality, support trends) and continuously iterate on process
- Champion Open Source Engagement
- Represent Pulumi within the open source community and with paying customers
- Triage issues and pull requests, ensuring timely responses and clear guidelines
- Champion an open, transparent release cadence and clear upgrade paths
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with other engineering teams to surface SDK requirements and API coverage gaps
- Partner with Support and Customer Success on critical bug fixes and escalations

Open source contributor: triaged issues, reviewed PRs, and built community engagement
