Engineering Manager

Summary

Join Canva's Design Capabilities team and lead the development of core APIs and SDKs for Canva's growing Apps Ecosystem. You will design and deliver foundational capabilities for third-party apps, collaborate with various teams, drive architectural direction, and grow a high-performing engineering team. The ideal candidate has experience leading engineering teams in API or platform environments, is comfortable navigating ambiguous challenges, possesses strong product instincts, and is an effective coach. Requirements

• You have experience leading high-performing engineering teams in API or platform environments
• You’re confident in navigating ambiguous product and technical challenges
• You have strong product instincts and know how to prioritise what matters most
• You’re an effective coach who builds inclusive, psychologically safe environments
• You know your way around full-stack technologies and are comfortable being hands-on when needed (we use TypeScript frontend and Java backend)
• You enjoy collaborating across functions and aligning diverse stakeholders toward bold goals

• Leading the Design Capabilities team to build core APIs and SDKs that power Canva’s growing Apps Ecosystem
• Designing and delivering foundational capabilities that let third-party apps feel native within Canva
• Collaborating with product, design, and developer platform teams to shape APIs used by millions
• Driving architectural direction and making high-leverage technical decisions
• Growing and empowering a high-performing frontend/full stack team to build secure, scalable platforms
• Advocating for external developers and creating tools that unlock new design experiences
