Engineering Manager, Web Platform

Summary

Join Airbnb's Web Platform team as a manager and lead a team of engineers in building and improving foundational tools and libraries. Partner with tech leads to shape team strategy and deliver impactful projects for over 400 web engineers. Responsibilities include prioritizing projects, fostering relationships with stakeholders, collaborating with other teams, coaching and mentoring team members, and addressing technical debt. The ideal candidate has 2+ years of management experience, experience with remote teams, and familiarity with developer productivity best practices. Requirements

• 2+ years of experience as a full-time manager
• Experience supporting and coaching Staff+ (ideally multiple) and Senior engineers
• Experience managing a remote/distributed team
• Familiarity with, and interest in, best practices for developer productivity
• Experience (beyond configuration) working with bundlers, testing frameworks, editor integrations, frontend build/CI systems, observability tooling, or developer environments

Responsibilities

• Prioritize projects across stakeholders and scope to deliver impact to our web engineering community
• Foster relationships with partner teams and stakeholders
• Collaborate with other platform teams on shared projects / principles
• Coach and mentor the team with empathy to do their best work while growing in their roles and responsibilities
• Partner with Staff and Sr. Staff engineers to assist them in aligning architecture trade-offs and designing strategy
• Create deliberate plans and opportunities to systematically address technical debt and improve code quality
• Contribute to the broader organization’s culture and processes with a “first team” mentality
