Summary

Join poolside, a company building AI to drive economically valuable work and scientific progress, as a member of the model training team. You will work on introducing new capabilities to state-of-the-art coding LLMs, making them increasingly autonomous and capable agents in complex environments. This role requires a high level of autonomy, the ability to navigate ambiguous research tasks, and excellent end-to-end execution skills. You will have access to thousands of GPUs and will influence research directions, design data pipelines, run experiments at scale, and write high-quality code. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in training multi-modal LLMs and a strong background in machine learning and software engineering.

Requirements

  • Experience training multi-modal Large Language Models (LLMs)
  • Experience in training multi-modal LLMs from scratch
  • Experience with agentic computer use with LLMs
  • Knowledge/Experience of distributed training
  • Strong machine learning and engineering background
  • Research experience
  • Excellent in navigating open-ended tasks with a pragmatic approach
  • Familiar with the state of the art of multi-modal LLMs and computer use
  • Is comfortable in a rapidly iterating environment
  • Maintains strong opinions, weakly held
  • Programming experience
  • Proficiency in Python and a strong grasp of software development principles
  • A minimum of 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Ability to ramp up quickly in new environments and infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Influence or lead our research directions for multi-modal and computer use capabilities
  • Design and build data pipelines and training environments for computer use agents
  • Run experimentation cycles end to end: Generate hypotheses, implement the ideas, and run experiments at scale
  • Write high-quality code and maintain a high bar of engineering quality
  • Work in the team: plan future steps, discuss, and always stay in touch

Preferred Qualifications

Other programming languages (e.g., Rust, JavaScript, C/C++, Java, or Go) are a plus
