Summary
Join Business Insider's paid editorial fellowship program and assist freelance editors in brainstorming, editing, and packaging stories for the lifestyle and entertainment sections. This early-career opportunity focuses on editing and preparing stories for publication, not reporting or writing. You'll work with in-house editors, review stories, select photos, and brainstorm new story ideas. The role requires working in NYC or San Francisco offices at least twice a week for six months, starting in June. Requirements
- Passion for our Life verticals, and for becoming a stronger editor
- Good instincts for what our readers find interesting, especially when it comes to food, travel, personal essays, trends, fashion, and more
- Familiarity with digital and social media
- Ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
- Light HTML and/or Photoshop experience
- Proofreading and copyediting skills
Responsibilities
- Assist freelance editors with brainstorming, editing, and packaging stories
- Review and edit stories from our network of freelancers and prepare them for publication
- Become experts in their assigned verticals and help the editors brainstorm new story framings, plus which topics to cover next and how best to do so
- Review and select photos and other elements to accompany stories on our site
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience editing and packaging stories for publication, from choosing photos to crafting headlines
- Demonstrable fact-checking skills
- Stellar organizational skills
