Summary

Join Blavity, Inc., a leading technology and news media company, as an SEO writer to create engaging and SEO-optimized content. This 1099 contractor position requires 1-2 years of digital publishing experience and a strong understanding of SEO principles. You will write articles based on provided keywords, ensuring grammatical accuracy, readability, and adherence to SEO best practices. The role reports to the Associate Director of SEO and is fully remote, with occasional travel possible. Candidates must be available to work at least 80% in alignment with the Eastern Time Zone. The pay rate is $20 per hour.

Requirements

• Education : Bachelor's Degree
• Required Experience : 1-2+ years experience writing for a digital publisher
• 1+ years experience using WordPress (or other content management systems) to author, publish, and edit content
• Knowledge of the latest AP Style guidelines, best practices for writing online and a basic understanding of core SEO concepts
• An online writing portfolio demonstrating exemplary writing and content creation skills

Responsibilities

• Write compelling, SEO stories aligned with Blavity’s brand voice and tone
• Check articles for grammatical and factual accuracy, readability, as well as, expertise, authority, and trust (EAT)
• Publish articles in our content management system following best practices for online content formatting
• Ensure that content follows basic SEO best practices, is structured and well optimized for performance

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years writing to acquire customers via Google Search
• Proficient with keyword research, on-page SEO, and content marketing best practices
• Fluent in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Asana, and Wordpress CMS
• Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to work collaboratively with a positive and can-do approach
• Comfortable performing research to ensure our information is accurate and as useful to readers as possible
• Independent, entrepreneurial self-starter who is comfortable taking on a high level of responsibility
• Motivated to work hard in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and analytical skills; willing to wear multiple hats
• A healthy appreciation of GIFs and Black culture
