Summary

Join Gusto, a leading online people platform, as a Frontend Engineer and contribute to building and maintaining a system of reusable UI components. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to create accessible, modular, and performant frontend experiences. This role requires 5+ years of frontend or full-stack engineering experience, proficiency in JavaScript technologies (preferably React.js or Typescript), and experience building UI components. Experience with backend APIs and various JavaScript testing libraries is a plus. Gusto offers a collaborative environment and opportunities to work on architectural improvements to the frontend infrastructure. Employees based in Denver, San Francisco, or New York City will work from the office 2-3 days a week. A secure internet connection is required for remote work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of technical experience in a frontend engineering (or) a full stack engineering role
  • Highly proficient in front-end Java script technologies, preferably React.js or Typescript
  • Experience in building UI components that are modular, composable, flexible, maintainable, and well-documented
  • Experience with a JavaScript testing library for unit, integration, and end-to-end validation
  • Appreciation for a collaborative, test-driven environment
  • Experience turning wireframes and mockups into responsive, accessible, tested code
  • Well-structured, easily maintainable, well-documented code that balances beauty and pragmatism
  • Passionate about creating inclusive, accessible experiences for everyone

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a system of reusable UI components and documentation including React.js, Typescript, Javascript, CSS, and HTML
  • Develop tools to ensure that the quality, performance, and accessibility of Gustoโ€™s reusable components continuously improve
  • Collaborate across teams in building accessible, modular, performant frontend experiences
  • Create and improve on tools for developing performant, accessible experiences for our customers
  • Contribute architectural improvements to Gustoโ€™s frontend infrastructure
  • Optionally, build and maintain APIs using Ruby

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in building backend APIs is an added advantage but not mandatory
  • Experience cross-functional collaboration with Design and/or other non-technical teams
  • Familiar with emerging trends in frontend web application development, including the various approaches to styling (CSS Modules, CSS-in-JS, Sass, etc.), component libraries (Material UI, Carbon, Polaris, and Lightning), accessibility tooling (aXe, Lighthouse), and observability (Fullstory, etc)
