Summary

Join McColm & Company as a Subject Matter Expert Instructor for an anticipated contract with the Foreign Service Institute (FSI). This consultant/contract position, located in Arlington, VA (with remote options), requires expertise in various leadership and management training areas. Responsibilities include designing and delivering training courses, utilizing adult learning principles, and incorporating educational technologies. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in adult learning, experiential learning, and federal government training. Requirements

  • At least seven (7) years of experience using adult learning principles in course facilitation and delivery
  • At least seven (7) years of experience in experiential learning methodologies and training techniques
  • Basic knowledge about the Department of State, to include but not limited to mission, values, and organizational structure
  • Proficiency in delivering training through blended learning technologies, including Zoom for Government, Adobe Connect, and AI-supported educational platforms
  • Strong knowledge of leadership, management, and supervision principles, particularly within the federal government
  • Ability to assess learner progress and adjust instructional methods accordingly
  • Expertise and relevant certifications in education industry standards for analytical tools, such as 360-degree assessments and conflict resolution instruments

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver leadership and management training courses for U.S. foreign affairs professionals
  • Utilize adult learning principles and experiential learning methodologies to engage participants
  • Incorporate educational technology and blended learning techniques, including Zoom for Government, Adobe Connect, and AI-supported instructional tools
  • Facilitate training on leadership, management, and supervision principles, particularly in the federal government context
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of learners and adjust instructional techniques to meet course objectives
  • Apply industry-standard analytical tools, such as 360-degree developmental assessments and conflict resolution instruments
  • Use diverse instructional techniques, including Dialogue Education, Action Learning, Case-in-Point facilitation, Open Space Technology, and the World CafΓ© methodology
  • Engage in project-based learning teams, participate in after-action reviews, and contribute to continuous curriculum improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with training delivery modalities, including case teaching, case-in-point facilitation, and Open Space Technology
  • Experience with Foreign Affairs agencies (e.g., Department of State, Intelligence agencies) and knowledge of embassy operations, global workforce challenges, and cross-cultural considerations
  • Experience in project-based learning teams and participation in after-action reviews or lessons learned events
