Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a healthcare integration engineer or interface analyst role, with demonstrated hands-on experience using integration engines such as Rhapsody, Mirth Connect, or similar platforms
- Proven ability to develop, maintain, and troubleshoot interfaces using HL7 v2.x, HL7 FHIR, X12, CCD, CDA, and other healthcare data standards
- Experience with database technologies (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL) and data mapping tools
- Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, VPNs) and secure data transport methods (SFTP, HTTPS, Web Services, APIs)
- Understanding of healthcare interoperability standards and public health reporting requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills, analytical mindset, and keen attention to data quality and security
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple integration projects and deliver results within set timeframes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
Responsibilities
- Design and Development of Interfaces: Analyze requirements, design, develop, and implement complex integration solutions using Rhapsody, Mirth Connect, or other industry-standard integration engines
- System Integration: Integrate a variety of health information systems (e.g., Electronic Health Records, Laboratory Information Management Systems, Immunization Registries, Syndromic Surveillance Systems) to facilitate interoperable data exchange in accordance with HL7, FHIR, CCD, CDA, X12, and other healthcare messaging standards
- Interface Monitoring and Support: Monitor production interfaces, investigate failures or data anomalies, troubleshoot issues, and implement root cause solutions to maintain system reliability and integrity
- Documentation: Prepare technical and user documentation, including interface specifications, data mapping documents, troubleshooting guides, and operational procedures
- Testing and Validation: Develop and execute test plans for integration solutions, ensuring quality and accuracy of data transfer and transformation
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with public health reporting standards, HIPAA, and other regulatory frameworks governing health information exchange
- Collaboration and Communication: Serve as a technical liaison between IT teams, public health departments, vendors, and external partners. Provide training and technical support to end-users and colleagues as necessary
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with emerging technologies and standards in healthcare interoperability and contribute to the ongoing improvement of integration practices within the organization
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting public health programs such as disease surveillance, immunization tracking, or case reporting
- Experience installing, configuring and working with HAPI-FHIR FHIR server and/or other FHIR server platforms
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server administration
- Working knowledge of Apache Tomcat
- Prior involvement in large-scale data modernization or health information exchange initiatives
