Summary

Join a progressive, client-focused family law boutique firm in Mississauga. This role is perfect for a new lawyer who recently completed their articles in family law and wants the flexibility of a boutique practice with mentorship and collaboration. You will provide legal advice and representation in family law matters, manage files independently, attend court and mediations, and maintain client communication. Requirements

  • Completion of a 10-month articling term at a law firm, focused on Family Law
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Proven ability to manage and advance multiple client matters independently (e.g. diligent and client focused, has had independent carriage of their file list)
  • Excellent communication and soft skills for client relationship management
  • Eager and desire to take on negotiation and litigation
  • Comfortable working remotely and using legal software (e.g., LEAP, Clio, or Lawmatics)
  • Technologically adept and comfortable using cloud-based infrastructure
  • Professional integrity, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to delivering high- quality legal outcomes
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an openness to business development and process improvement

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice and representation in family law matters including divorce, child custody, spousal support, child support, and property division
  • Manage files independently from intake through resolution with excellence in legal drafting, strategy, and communication
  • Attend court, mediations, and discoveries; advocate for clients at all stages of litigation and settlement
  • Maintain regular, proactive communication with clients about their case progress and outcomes
  • Collaborate with a skilled team of clerks, intake coordinators, and lawyers to deliver seamless client service
  • Participate in team meetings, case strategy discussions, and optional business development efforts as desired
  • Ensure documentation, billing, and timekeeping are accurate and timely
