Summary
Join FiscalNote as a Lead Software Engineer and play a key role in building our Developer Experience team. You will own critical infrastructure and services, define best practices, shape internal guidelines, and improve developer workflows. This role involves mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and delivering high-impact projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and leverage your expertise to ensure system security and reliability. The position offers opportunities to research and integrate emerging technologies and contribute to strategic decisions. Ultimately, you will help foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional experience in the software development industry
- Solid backend engineering experience, including designing APIs, implementing asynchronous services, and managing distributed systems
- Proficiency with AWS services and cloud infrastructure, with a working understanding of VPCs, IAM, EC2, ECS, and S3
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and pipeline tools like GitHub Actions, CircleCI, or Jenkins, with an eye toward automation and developer efficiency
- Comfortable working with Linux-based systems, containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code platforms such as Terraform or Ansible
- Hands-on scripting knowledge in Python, Bash, or JavaScript to streamline internal tools and workflows
- Exposure to monitoring and observability stacks such as Signoz, Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, or New Relic
- Understanding of relational and non-relational databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Redshift
- Experience collaborating across technical and non-technical teams, contributing to architecture decisions, and aligning engineering with strategic goals
- Basic familiarity with security best practices, networking concepts, and cloud-native identity/access systems
- A track record of mentoring and developing team members, contributing to a culture of continuous growth and shared success
- Bachelorβs degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience in backend or DevOps engineering
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, automate, maintain, and scale production environments, infrastructure, and shared services that power critical engineering systems
- Build and own internal platforms, tools, and services that elevate the developer experience across the organization
- Help shape engineering best practices, coding standards, and guidelines
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, design, data, and AI, to deliver scalable solutions
- Drive improvements in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, observability, and deployment workflows
- Leverage your extensive knowledge of security and compliance best practices to ensure that our systems and data are secure
- Continually monitor and ensure the health and uptime of our production environment and its dependencies
- Mentor and support engineers through code reviews, design sessions, and knowledge sharing
- Research and integrate emerging technologies, including AI/LLM tools, into developer workflows
- Participate in shaping the technical roadmap and strategic decisions for developer platforms
- Help foster a culture of engineering excellence, inclusivity, and continuous improvement
