Legal Intern

Summary

Join the Alliance for Justice (AFJ) as a 2025 Summer Bolder Advocacy Legal Intern! This 10-week, fully remote, paid internship ($8,000) offers valuable experience in nonprofit advocacy law. You will support the Bolder Advocacy team, attend trainings, conduct legal research, draft technical assistance responses, monitor legislation, and contribute to blog posts and other communications. The ideal candidate is a current law student with excellent research, writing, and communication skills and a passion for public interest law. AFJ welcomes applicants with partial or full third-party funding.

Requirements

• Current law student
• Excellent research, writing, and oral communications skills
• Ability to analyze and clearly explain legal concepts plainly
• An interest in public policy and/or working with nonprofit organizations
• An interest in nonprofit advocacy law (lobbying, campaign finance, etc.)
• A demonstrated commitment to the public interest
• Applicants must be able to work 40-hours per week

Responsibilities

• Attend BA trainings to learn nonprofit law and public presentation skills. Support trainers as needed (e.g., answer substantive questions, tech and logistic support, etc.)
• Research, draft, and respond to technical assistance questions under the supervision of BA attorneys
• Monitor federal, state, and local legislation that affects nonprofit advocacy or issues that impact the progressive community
• Track developments in nonprofit advocacy and write blog posts or articles on the topic
• Attend training preparation calls, partnership meetings, and/or community convenings
• Conduct research and analysis related to a broad array of public interest law and/or progressive issues
• Research and conduct outreach to new audiences or nonprofits primarily working in AFJ’s priority issue areas
• Work with AFJ’s Communications and Development teams to draft press releases, blog posts, and web content
• Perform other duties as necessary
