Manager, Software Development

Summary

Join onX as a Software Development Manager III and lead a cross-functional team of engineers to shape the future of the Map Viewer. Oversee the Map Viewer team, focusing on the full stack of technologies powering the in-app map experience. This role involves making great engineers better through mentoring and goal-setting, building great software through leading design, development, testing, and deployment, and building great teams by hiring talented engineers and managers. Requirements

• You have at least five (5) years of experience where you directly managed software engineers
• You have a proven track record of delivering customer solutions
• You have a proven track record delivering solutions to help enable product and engineering teams
• You communicate well with executives and non-technical leaders
• You have a strong computer science foundation
• You want to work with other happy, talented engineers
• You’re fun to work with
• You can work in ambiguous environments and different stages of a product lifecycle
• Must be able to travel to a corporate office in Montana 6+ times annually

Responsibilities

• Make great engineers better. You’ll support your teammates with individual goal-setting, professional development and mentoring
• Make great software. You’ll work with your team and/or multiple teams to ensure you’re delivering maintainable, high-quality, customer-focused products. You will lead your team in design, development, testing, deployment, and operations
• Build great teams. You’ll work closely with your peers to hire smart, creative and kind engineers and managers.  You’ll be responsible for hiring talented iOS, Android, web, and backend engineers for the team. Also will be responsible for hiring managers for the engineering organization and product organization
• Collaborate. You’ll manage dependencies between functional teams and facilitate collaboration. This team builds key features used in all of our apps. You will make considerations to serve all of onX’s customers.  You will build a strong relationship with Product, Product Design and your team’s stakeholders.  You work well across multiple teams, and across all of engineering to drive outcomes from a single team or multiple teams
• Leadership. You can drive a project by yourself or direct multiple teams and leaders to a desired outcome.  You can work throughout the organization and can help solve problems in all parts of the organization
• Communicate. You’ll err on the side of over-communicating. You will help teams work efficiently together. You’ll work closely with the team’s product manager and engineers to set ambitious, but attainable goals and plan a sequence to get from where we are to where we want to be. Communicating and coordinating your team’s goals will be key to successfully working with other teams and moving the company forward together

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with mapping technology
• Experience with graphics development
• You have experience working both with startups and larger growth companies
• You have a B.S. or M.S. in computer science or a related field or experience
