Requirements
- 5+ years of experience managing engineering teams in a web-based application/service environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership
- Strong commitment to quality, architecture and maintainability
- Able to effectively direct and mentor others in engineering disciplines and best practices
- Able to proactively engage with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and design solutions using critical thinking, analysis skills and best practices
- Able to influence and energize others toward a common vision
- Highly self-motivated and self-directed
- Strong project management and product lifecycle skills
- Able to understand the value of change and is willing to pivot direction to embrace different ways of working
- 3+ years of experience with the Agile/Scrum development methodology
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment and leading subordinates
- Understanding of object-oriented design, SQL and relational databases
- Experience building scalable, globally accessible web applications and platforms
- Understanding of application lifecycle management tools for source control, continuous integration and deployment, and various areas of testing (unit, integration, load, performance and vulnerability)
Responsibilities
- Complement the Director of Software Engineering in providing technical leadership, collaborating with architects and software engineers towards the development of software products and ensuring employee growth and retention goals
- Track and enhance the overall health of the engineering organization
- Work with software engineers to develop and/or confirm architecture decisions, design decisions, and implementation approaches
- Work with internal customers and product management to identify and clarify product requirements
- Manage scope and deliverables for the technical side of the product roadmap
- Direct team members to focus on highest-priority/highest-impact projects and development tasks
- Lead recruiting efforts
- Identify, review, and incorporate opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies and drive the adoption of high value improvements within the team
- Manage time effectively with minimal supervision to accurately document solutions, scope projects while ensuring that commitments are met
- Collaborate with operations, QA, support and product to resolve production issues
