Summary
Join iMedX, a Rapid Care Group Company, as a Medical Coding Specialist! This remote, part-time or full-time position requires 3 years of coding experience (inpatient experience is a plus). The ideal candidate will abstract clinical information from health records, assign accurate codes according to guidelines, and maintain confidentiality. Experience with SDOH codes and behavioral health coding is preferred. The role involves assisting with documentation improvement education and meeting productivity standards. The position reports to the Coding Manager. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication and computer skills.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Completion of a formal coding program
- Minimum of three yearsโ coding work experience encompassing a working knowledge of the ICD and CPT coding systems; medical terminology; anatomy and physiology; and health record content
- Exhibits a sense of urgency towards work, possesses intermediate level computer skills, attention to detail, excellent customer service and written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
- Abstracts relevant clinical information from the health records
- Identifies the principal and secondary diagnoses based on the Coding Guidelines
- Assigns ICD codes to the principal and secondary diagnoses
- Identifies procedures based on Coding Guidelines
- Assigns ICD and CPT codes to the procedures
- Assign principle diagnoses for DRG reimbursement
- Assigns correct principal and secondary ICD-10-PCS codes with attention to accurate sequencing
- Complies with the Clinical Coding Initiative (CCI) edits when assigning codes
- Meets or exceeds the iMedX coding quality standards
- Understands and adheres to all requirements related to coding compliance
- Performs coding in an efficient and productive manner utilizing good time management and professional work habits.ย Meets productivity standards for position
- Refers coding questions to the Coding Manager in a timely manner for feedback and coding guideline development
- Continually enhances coding skills.ย Participates in team meetings and educational conferences to ensure coding practice remains current
- Maintains confidentiality and safeguards the privacy of protected health information (PHI)

- Performs other job related duties as may be assigned or required
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or other AHIMA or AAPC approved coding credential
- Experience assigning SDOH (social determinant of health) codes
- Experience with coding in a behavioral health setting
