Network Engineer

Summary

Join Fastly, a company that helps people stay better connected with the things they love, as a Network Engineer (US East Coast and Central - Remote). The Technical Operations team is responsible for building & operating the infrastructure that powers the Fastly Edge Cloud Platform. We're looking for an experienced network engineer to build, operate, and maintain the continually growing global network footprint of Fastly’s Edge Cloud Platform.

Requirements

• Real-world experience in the protocols and practices that make up the fabric of the global internet, including IP, BGP, Anycast, and DNS
• Proficiency in Tier 1 Internet service providers and Internet exchanges
• Ability to analyse traffic patterns across multiple dimensions using flow-based tools
• Experience with Linux/Unix
• Experience working with alerting, monitoring and visibility tools (such as Graphite/Grafana, Prometheus, or Splunk)
• Understanding of highly available & complex systems and how they operate at scale
• Basic Coding/ scripting skills, preferably in Python

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and maintain the continually growing global network footprint of Fastly’s Edge Cloud Platform
• Manage network incidents, and resolve edge cases and failure scenarios by leveraging your expertise in IP routing, focusing on BGP
• Develop innovative ways of monitoring the performance of the platform, with a focus on the experience of end users on the Internet. Catch and remediate potential issues before they develop into impacting events
• Respond to both internal & external facing incidents. Use learnings from these events to help shape processes, automation and tooling to reduce future occurrences
• Advocate for the operational stability of the network. Look for areas of opportunity and partner with engineering teams in the scoping and prioritisation of their roadmaps and software solutions
