Summary

Join Kairos Power as a Nuclear Systems Code Development Intern and contribute to the development of KP-SAM, an advanced simulation code for the Kairos Power Fluoride Salt-Cooled High Temperature Reactor (KP-FHR). You will assess and develop new models and methods, perform verification and validation, and document your work. This internship requires a strong background in nuclear reactor system analysis, software development, and experience with system analysis codes. The role involves collaboration with a team, problem-solving, and prioritizing safety. The internship is located in Alameda, CA, and offers competitive compensation.

Requirements

  • Current student pursuing M.S. or PhD in Nuclear Engineering or related Engineering discipline
  • Knowledgeable about nuclear reactor system analysis with strong analysis skills
  • Programming experience: C/C++, Git, FORTRAN, LaTeX
  • Ability to actively listen for and identify the team’s needs, anticipate priorities and keep the team apprised of relevant information
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of one self and others
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues

Responsibilities

  • Assess new models and features developed by Argonne National Lab SAM team under DOE TCF award, and adding additional minor improvement and enhancement
  • Verify and validate the developed model, and demonstrating its use in relevant transient scenarios
  • Document the newly developed models in theory manual, assessment report, and user manual
  • Assist other KP-SAM development work
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with system analysis codes, SAM, RELAP, SASYYS
  • Experience with DOE MOOSE framework, and SAM
