Summary
Join Utilities One, a leading engineering and infrastructure services provider, as an OSP Engineer I. You will support the design and development of outside plant (OSP) fiber networks across the U.S., working with experienced engineers and field teams. This role involves creating high-quality, permit-ready fiber designs using industry design tools and standards. You will assist in planning and laying out FTTH/FTTP fiber optic networks, developing high-level designs, and maintaining field data using tools like ArcGIS and AutoCAD. Collaboration with various teams is crucial for smooth project execution. The ideal candidate possesses a technical mindset, attention to detail, and relevant experience.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in OSP engineering or related fiber design work
- Solid understanding of FTTH architecture, including centralized, distributed split, and tap configurations
- Hands-on experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, IQGeo, Vetro, or similar platforms
- Working knowledge of Google Earth, MS Excel/Word, and Adobe tools
- Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work independently
- High attention to detail and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset
Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning and layout of FTTH/FTTP fiber optic networks
- Develop High Level Designs (HLDs) including route proposals, splice points, and network topology based on client requirements, permitting constraints, and available data
- Upload and maintain field data, imagery, and documentation using tools such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Katapult, and Google Earth
- Ensure the quality and accuracy of collected data from aerial and underground surveys
- Coordinate with field survey crews to document utility poles, handholes, pedestals, and ROW features
- Collaborate with permitting, GIS, and construction teams to ensure smooth project execution
- Identify potential conflicts or violations during field data collection and propose viable solutions
- Apply NESC/NEC standards and customer-specific specifications in all design activities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with major carriers such as AT&T, Verizon, or Lumen
- Familiarity with pole loading, utility right-of-way (ROW), and safety compliance protocols
