Summary
Join KCE as a Performance Engineer and contribute to improving the performance of energy storage facilities. Diagnose equipment and performance issues, develop tools and reports, and build automated processes and data models. This senior-level role requires leading initiatives, problem-solving, and collaborating across teams. Responsibilities include developing plant operational data models, performing root cause analysis, creating operational KPIs, and working with SQL databases and third-party software. Collaboration with SCADA and software development teams is essential, as is supporting subject matter experts (SMEs). The role also involves monitoring equipment performance, predicting component health, and providing analysis on KPI performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in technical field, Master’s degree preferred
- 0-4 years of work experience, preferably in renewable energy or a related field
- Experience performing data analysis on engineering assets, preferably in the power generation industry
- Experience with programming (SQL, Python, R, Matlab, etc)
- Experience with data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau, Matplotlib, Shiny etc)
- Familiarity with agile and scrum methodology, and with code repositories such as Github
- Strong verbal, and written communication skills are required
- Proficient in various software programs including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, and database use
- Analytical, detail-oriented, organized, and able to break down and solve complicated problems
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and use plant operational data to diagnose issues and to develop models to improve plant performance, efficiency and reliability
- Perform or assist in root cause analysis on system components experiencing failure or underperformance by leveraging data and working with subject matter experts
- Developing reports, dashboards, and other operational KPIs to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of KCE’s Asset Operations team
- Work with SQL databases, and other third party software’s to build and deliver automated reports and to conduct analysis
- Collaborate with SCADA and software development teams to build out data infrastructure needed for performance analytics
- Support and interface with component Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to assess equipment anomalies and analyze events
- Monitor equipment performance and predict component health, alerting SMEs and site personnel of anomalies within those trends that could adversely affect reliability and maintainability of equipment
- Provide analysis in areas such as KPI performance against targets & goals
- Develop, update, and train analytical and performance software models
- Help automate and improve performance reporting capabilities
- All other duties as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced pattern recognition, and machine learning is a plus
- Advanced understanding of controls, inverters, and energy storage systems is a plus
- Experience with technical analysis and root cause analysis is a plus
