Summary

Join Gusto's Data Science team as a Product Analyst and leverage your extensive data expertise to drive strategic decision-making. Collaborate with various teams, including Product, Engineering, and Finance, to shape product strategy and track key performance metrics. Your responsibilities will include leading ambiguous projects, performing in-depth data analysis, developing insightful reports and visualizations, ensuring data quality, and implementing data governance best practices. You will also partner with engineering to define and implement event instrumentation plans and apply statistical techniques to support confident decision-making. The ideal candidate possesses 10+ years of analytical experience in a product-focused software company, excellent SQL skills, expertise in data visualization tools, and strong communication skills.

Requirements

  • Successful applicants typically have 10+ years of analytical experience at a product-focused software company
  • Experience working with and analyzing complex datasets, including QA, querying, summarizing, visualizing, and analyses
  • Experience designing and analyzing A/B tests in a production environment
  • Excellent SQL skills with demonstrated ability to write efficient queries
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively delivering findings and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner
  • Expertise in data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Hex, Omni, etc)
  • Experience collaborating with data engineering teams to design and implement data models that facilitate data analysis, reporting, and business intelligence needs

Responsibilities

  • Leading: Own ambiguous problems, interact with multiple stakeholders, and establish structures and processes to take our analytics to the next level
  • Data Thought Partnership: Collaborate with product managers, engineering leads, designers, and operations teams to drive data efforts for large product areas. Shape product strategy by identifying what to build, how to measure success, and how to iterate based on data
  • Analysis: Perform analyses to extract meaningful insights and identify trends, patterns, and correlations relevant to our business, products, and services
  • Reporting and Visualization: Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations to effectively communicate key findings and trends to stakeholders
  • Data Quality: Review data integrity, accuracy, and metric logic. Identify and work with relevant teams to resolve data issues and implement data governance best practices
  • Performance Tracking: Monitor and evaluate the performance of our products and services, conducting regular data-driven reviews and providing actionable recommendations for improvement
  • Instrumentation: Partner with engineering and product to define and implement event instrumentation plans. Ensure data is robust, consistent, and enables accurate measurement of user behavior and product performance
  • Inference: Apply basic statistical techniques, such as A/B testing and before/after analyses, to draw meaningful insights, assess causality, and support confident decision-making
  • Influence: Work closely with members of our other Data Teams - Decision Science, Model Developers, Analytics Engineering, and Data Platform - to promote a data-informed mindset across the company through education and role modeling
  • Product Strategy Influence: Bring the voice of the user into product decision-making. Combine behavioral insights, market context, and business goals to guide roadmaps and prioritization
  • Builder Mindset: Be responsive, build and iterate quickly, take ownership of the data needs and opportunities in your area, stay curious, and produce data products that help the business

Benefits

  • Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $157,000/yr - $196,000/yr in Denver, Chicago, Miami, Austin and Atlanta, $171,000/yr - $214,000/yr in Los Angeles, $185,000/yr - $230,000 for San Francisco, Seattle and New York
  • Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City
  • Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role)
  • The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale
  • When approved to work from a location other than a Gusto office, a secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required
