Summary

Join NPR's How I Built This podcast as a temporary Producer I! This role involves producing three weekly programs: a long-form podcast, an advice line podcast, and a radio show. Responsibilities include audio production, research, interviewing, and writing. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in long-form audio and a passion for business and entrepreneurship. This remote position reports to the Supervising Producer/Editor and is a union-represented role. The temporary position is for six months.

Requirements

  • At least five years of audio editing and production experience, preferably in long-form narrative
  • High proficiency in ProTools editing software
  • Ability to shape, edit, and score audio with confidence and on deadline
  • 4-5 years of experience researching and writing for audio: broadcast and/or podcast
  • A passion for business and entrepreneurship
  • Impeccable track record with fact-checking and experience with quality assurance on final scripts and audio
  • Ability to learn production platforms quickly and handle multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines and changing conditions
  • Ability to edit other peopleโ€™s work and efficiently communicate whatโ€™s needed to improve it
  • Ability to collaborate smoothly with others, demonstrating respect for diverse constituencies at NPR and beyond
  • Highly supportive of cultivating and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
  • Ability to manage all of the above with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Edit, write, score, mix, and publish individual podcast episodes from raw interview to a fully-produced project
  • Script and produce NPRโ€™s HIBT/Planet Money radio show, refining and restructuring previously-published content
  • Prepare and fact-check research material for the host, including comprehensive summaries of guest biographies
  • Pre-interview and evaluate prospective callers for the HIBT Advice Line podcast
  • Write and produce promotional copy for the podcast
  • Generate and research pitches for future guests
  • Occasionally perform backup editing, including overseeing fact-checking and final scripting of an episode
