Requirements
- A JD from a top law school and membership in the California Bar
- At least 5 years of relevant experience (in-house and/or law firm), ideally with exposure to marketing review, advertising law, or product counseling experience
- Strong understanding of U.S. advertising and consumer protection laws, privacy principles, and emerging technology issues
- Ability to provide quick, concise and practical legal advice consistent with the organization’s business objectives
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, act decisively and run projects autonomously
- Good judgment, strong ethics, kind heart
- Confident self-starter and proven ability to work cross-functionally with business partners
- Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm under challenging circumstances
- Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, with effective resolution of conflicting priorities
- A passion for GoFundMe’s mission while being a genuine GoFundMe ambassador who amplifies GoFundMe’s culture in all communications and interactions
Responsibilities
- Review and advise on marketing content, including digital campaigns, social media, email communications, influencer partnerships, and promotional materials
- Ensure compliance with consumer protection regulations, advertising law, substantiation, disclosures, endorsements, user-generated content, and industry best practices
- Partner with marketing, brand, and communications teams to provide practical legal risk mitigation strategies
- Provide legal guidance on new product features and updates, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including privacy, consumer protection, and IP concerns
- Partner with Product, Compliance, Data Privacy, Brand, and Engineering to ensure legal considerations are embedded in the planning stages and mitigate risks throughout the product development lifecycle
- Work with outside counsel to manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio and assist in filing new applications
- Advise on projects as needed, including regulatory, IP, and risk management issues
Preferred Qualifications
International experience and experience in intellectual property and/or privacy are a plus
