Publishing Assistant

Summary

Join us as a Publishing Assistant and become the founder's right-hand collaborator, bringing creative ideas to life and ensuring the smooth development and promotion of our children's book titles. You will coordinate book creation, collaborate with illustrators and ghostwriters, and support the marketing and publishing process. This role involves managing project timelines, reviewing drafts, organizing files, supporting promotional efforts, researching self-publishing platforms, and preparing manuscripts for publication. You will also track royalties and sales results. The position is remote with hours from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm PST, Monday to Friday.

Requirements

• Must have at least 1 year experience in publishing, editorial support, or project coordination in a creative field (children’s publishing is a plus)
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Experience collaborating with creatives such as illustrators and writers
• Self-starter with a proactive and problem-solving mindset
• Comfortable working independently in a startup environment

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing the development of children’s books from concept to publication
• Coordinate with illustrators, ghostwriters, and other freelancers
• Monitor project timelines and ensure deadlines are met
• Review and provide feedback on drafts
• Organize and maintain book-related files and documentation
• Support promotional efforts including basic advertising, content preparation for listings, and outreach
• Help strategize and execute marketing campaigns across online platforms
• Research best practices for self-publishing platforms (e.g., Amazon KDP)
• Assist in formatting and preparing manuscripts for publication
• Keep track of royalties, sales, and promotional results as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of publishing platforms like KDP or IngramSpark
• Experience with graphic design tools or basic book formatting
• Background in marketing or social media promotion for creative products
• Familiarity with children’s book content and trends is a plus
