Requirements

  • Five years of communications experience
  • Significant experience working with state and national political reporters
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to develop and execute strategic communications plans
  • Experience with social media and digital communications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work across a diverse, complex organization or eco-system to accomplish work involving multiple stakeholders at different levels

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct or indirect oversight to 2-4 regional and state communications staff
  • Support state-level staff to develop communications and narrative strategies that support state power building
  • Provide direct strategy and implementation support to regions and states that lack communications capacity
  • Provide ongoing media training and spokesperson development to staff, officers, and WFP members
  • Assess and build consensus around staffing models to meet state and regional communication needs
  • Coordinate and direct communications consultants where necessary
  • Develop systems and structures to package and disseminate content and facilitate regular communications to various audiences of political insiders, reporters, funders, and other WFP leaders
  • Develop and execute a strategy to elevate WFP’s state-level work and state-level leaders, including a national earned media strategy, a brand development strategy and working with WFP’s digital director to identify and execute digital strategies
  • Develop a vision for and manage the creation of promotional materials that center and tell the story of state level work
  • Develop centralized infrastructure that supports state level communications work and increases internal information flow about state level work
  • Develop standard communications policies and procedures for state level staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing or mentoring colleagues
  • Experience developing communications strategies to support fundraising efforts
  • Media relationships in regions where WFP lacks dedicated communications staff, including the Southwest, Pacific Northwest or the Midwest
