Requirements
- Proven track record in pitching stories to media outlets and securing high-profile coverage
- Fluency in unbranded and branded communications strategies and approaches
- Extensive experience line managing consultants and firms across a diversity of issues and geographies
- Experience working with international media, particularly in advocacy, non-profit, or political organizations
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to mentor and motivate staff
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen ability to distill complex issues into straightforward, engaging content
- Experience in crisis communications and managing sensitive media issues
- Fluency in English, with knowledge of any other languages a distinct advantage
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and cultivate strong relationships with key journalists, reporters, and editors in international, national, and regional outlets
- Develop and implement media outreach strategies to effectively pitch stories, reports, research findings, and organizational updates to targeted media
- Lead efforts to increase the visibility of the organization’s campaigns, ensuring accurate and impactful media coverage
- Develop, manage, and execute a comprehensive earned media strategy that supports the organization’s mission and advocacy goals
- Lead a high-performing communications team to support various organizational initiatives, including public campaigns, thought leadership, and external relations
- Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure consistent messaging across all external platforms and align communications with broader organizational priorities
- Manage and coordinate crisis communications efforts, providing clear guidance to senior leadership during critical events
- Develop proactive risk mitigation strategies for potential media or public relations challenges
- Track and analyze the impact of communications strategies, providing regular reports on media coverage, engagement, and organizational visibility
