Requirements

  • Admitted to practice before the United States Patent Office
  • At least 8 years of relevant job experience
  • Substantial in-house experience within a leading biotech, diagnostics, or pharma company
  • Experience in prosecution of patent portfolios relating to DNA testing and mutation analysis, PCR and next-gen sequencing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy a strategic prosecution plan for key patent families in Natera’s extensive patent portfolio
  • Identify and capture important company innovation in new patent filings
  • Build strong partnerships with the IP, Contracts, R&D and Business Development teams to manage the patent filing and prosecution process
  • Assess and identify relevant IP landscapes in the cell-free DNA testing space
  • Partner with attorneys in the Natera IP team to develop appropriate strategies to address IP risk
  • Partner with the Natera IP paralegals with docket database management, invention disclosure tracking, and IP reporting, as necessary
  • Support the IP attorneys, as needed, with litigation-related analysis, including freedom-to-operate and invalidity positions (FTO)
  • Stay abreast of relevant technology trends and current patent prosecution trends/issues
  • Perform other duties as required

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Natera is a pioneer in the field of non-invasive testing of cell-free DNA (cfDNA). We are seeking an experienced and dynamic patent agent to manage key portions of our extensive intellectual portfolio and to address complex IP issues relating to this rapidly growing and dynamic space.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and deploy a strategic prosecution plan for key patent families in Natera’s extensive patent portfolio

  • Identify and capture important company innovation in new patent filings

  • Build strong partnerships with the IP, Contracts, R&D and Business Development teams to manage the patent filing and prosecution process

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated track record of leadership in managing complex IP issues
  • Resourceful and proactive approach to managing complex workload, with ability to self-manage and execute
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders in a collaborative and dynamic environment

The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
