Summary
Join our team as a Select Agent Specialist to provide regulatory, high containment, and biosafety expertise support to the Biorisk Management Unit. The successful candidate will work with BRM personnel to ensure project completion in a timely manner, develop SOPs and WIs for select agent registration, and provide SME guidance on select agent registration and biosafety related issues.
Requirements
- The applicants shall have extensive knowledge and competence in select agent requirements and how select agent regulations relate to the operation and maintenance of systems unique to NBAF
- Applicants shall have a minimum of 7-10 years of experience supporting a BSL-3 or higher laboratory in the United States
- And 3-5 years of experience serving as an RO or ARO in a FSAP registered facility, preferable Tier 1
- Applicants should provided guidance for NBAF facilities maintenance staff and others on equipment which is specific to BSL’s
- Including, but not limited to: Breathing Air Chemical Shower Barrier Autoclaves Thermal Tissue Autoclaves APR Doors Containment Surface Coatings HEPA Caissons Effluent Digestor System (EDS) Biosafety Cabinets (BSC) Lab Pressure Reference Control Lab Safety Systems
- Have provided guidance as a consultant and/or advisor to management level personnel on a broad range of occupational safety and health (OSH) programs, policies and procedures that have supported high containment facilities to resolve complex and challenging employee safety matters/problems including, but not limited to: Respiratory protection Personal protective equipment Chemical and biological agent exposure assessment Medical surveillance Bloodborne pathogen Exposure control Special immunization programs and sharps management
Responsibilities
- Work with BRM personnel to ensure project is accomplished in a timely manner
- Work with SHEM personnel to ensure project is accomplished in a timely manner
- Provide select agent regulatory, high containment, and biosafety expertise support to the Biorisk Management Unit
- Developing SOPs and WIs for entry/exit requirements, inactivation policies, Biosafety Plans, Security Plans, and other documentation required for Select Agent Registration
- High containment laboratory inspections and assessments
- Space use assessments
- High containment training development
- Inactivation procedures review
- Provide SME guidance in onsite discussions, risk assessments, decision making regarding select agent registration and biosafety related issues
Benefits
A hybrid work schedule consisting of a two (2) week period when the applicants will be expected to be on-site and working directly with BRM personnel and the following two (2) week period the applicants may work remotely for a maximum of three (3) months or as directed by the BRM manager

Job Title:Select Agent Specialist
Location:1980 Denison Ave., Manhattan, KS.
Duties:
- The Applicant shall work with BRM personnel to ensure project is accomplished in a timely manner.
- The Applicant shall work with SHEM personnel to ensure project is accomplished in a timely manner.
- A hybrid work schedule consisting of a two (2) week period when the applicants will be expected to be on-site and working directly with BRM personnel and the following two (2) week period the applicants may work remotely for a maximum of three (3) months or as directed by the BRM manager.
- Provide select agent regulatory, high containment, and biosafety expertise support to the Biorisk Management Unit. Example tasks may include but are not limited to the following:
- Developing SOPs and WIs for entry/exit requirements, inactivation policies, Biosafety Plans, Security Plans, and other documentation required for Select Agent Registration.
- High containment laboratory inspections and assessments.
- Space use assessments
- High containment training development
- Inactivation procedures review
- Provide SME guidance in onsite discussions, risk assessments, decision making regarding select agent registration and biosafety related issues.
- The work performed under this requirement shall be subject to continuous audit by the CO/COR/BRM/SHEM.
Qualification:
- The applicants shall have extensive knowledge and competence in select agent requirements and how select agent regulations relate to the operation and maintenance of systems unique to NBAF.
- Applicants shall have a minimum of 7-10 years of experience supporting a BSL-3 or higher laboratory in the United States and 3-5 years of experience serving as an RO or ARO in a FSAP registered facility, preferable Tier 1. Additionally, it is preferred for personal to have a M.S. or PH.D. in a related field or DVM.
- Applicants should provided guidance for NBAF facilities maintenance staff and others on equipment which is specific to BSL’s, including, but not limited to:
