Summary

Join Management Solutions as a Technical Writer to support the Department of Energy Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations. This temporary position has the potential to become long term. The successful candidate will write/edit documents for the Project Management Office and other related offices, meeting with DOE stakeholders and engaging with subject matter experts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Engineering, Technology, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience, or 8 years equivalent combination of education and/or related experience (e.g., technical / procedure writing, drafting documentation for conducting analysis or engineering assessments)
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (in particular Microsoft Word and Visio), with strong ability to leverage these tools for template development and formatting (e.g., outline functions, cross-references, embedded images, etc.)
  • Excellent ability to proofread and edit a range of written material
  • Proficient at taking and synthesizing comprehensive notes (even if subject matter is unfamiliar or technical in nature)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with team members, federal clients, subject matter experts, and other key stakeholders
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Meet with DOE stakeholders to understand their technical writing needs and supporting vision as it relates to documents (e.g., policies, procedures, guidance manuals, presentations, white papers, and other guiding documents)
  • Engage with subject matter experts to synthesize complex content into an orderly, simplified document
  • Identify key questions to be asked and/or needs to be addressed of subject matter experts when developing technical documents
  • Prepare policies, procedures, guidance manuals, and other guiding documents to support the Department of Energy’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations
  • Manage the document development process from inception through submission to deliver technical documents on schedule
  • Manage multiple technical writing assignments concurrently
  • Participate in client meetings, taking comprehensive notes and synthesizing key points for all stakeholders involved

This position will support the Department of Energy Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED). OCED is a multi-technology office responsible for overseeing more than $20B of investment in large scale demonstrations in emerging technologies such as clean hydrogen, carbon capture, advanced nuclear reactors, grid-scale energy storage, industrial emissions reductions as well as demonstrations in rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged regions. We are looking for individuals with a range of skills and interest in large-scale clean energy demonstration projects, particularly in renewable systems, carbon capture and removal, hydrogen, and nuclear energy technologies.

This position will be responsible for writing/editing documents for the Project Management Office and other related offices. Additional responsibilities may arise, as needed.

What you will need…

  • Knowledge of Department of Energy procedures / Experience writing Department of Energy procedures for Project Controls, EVMS, or a Project Management Office is a plus
  • Procedure Professionals Association (PPA) Procedure Writer Certification is a plus
  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

Location:

  • This position is remote, with the expectation that candidates can work during Eastern Time Zone office hours. Residency in the United States is a mandatory requirement
