Remote Transportation Project Engineer

Join A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc., as a Transportation Engineer in our Charleston, SC office, supporting projects with data collection, design development, and providing support for various plans.

Requirements

• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
• Minimum 3 years relevant experience
• Knowledge of civil engineering design and construction surveying concepts required
• Experience performing design for roadway transportation projects required, including cost estimating, specifications and highway plans for construction bid packages
• Experience with State and Federal transportation design standards required; South Carolina design procedures and standards a plus

Responsibilities

• Collect data for engineering reports
• Evaluate existing condition and alternative analysis for engineering reports
• Develop horizontal and vertical alignments
• Perform cross section and superelevation design
• Design roadside barriers
• Design ADA curb ramps
• Conduct roadway modeling
• Provide design support for erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, right-of-way plans, utility relocation plans, permit application drawings, and traffic signal design and traffic engineering related plans

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior work experience with Municipal and State DOTs preferred, prior work with SCDOT and/or other South Carolina localities a plus
• Experience in advanced intersection and roadway corridor modeling; AutoCad and/or Civil3D; GIS applications such as ArcGIS or Google Earth; SignCAD, AutoTurn, and/or ASTA project scheduling; Experience with MS Office products including Word and Excel
