Research Fellow

Summary

Join the Good Food Institute (GFI), a nonprofit think tank dedicated to improving the global food system, as a Research Fellow, Plant-Based Meat. In this role, you will contribute to GFI's mission by developing educational resources and conducting research on plant-based meat, seafood, eggs, and dairy. Your work will involve creating a lecture for GFI's online course, co-authoring web pages on plant-based products, and updating GFI's literature library. This is a remote, independent contractor position with a 10-hour per week commitment for 16 weeks, offering a stipend of $4800 paid biweekly.

Requirements

• Ph.D. preferred; candidates currently pursuing a Ph.D. in food science, materials science, analytical chemistry, or other aligned fields may also be considered
• Foundational scientific understanding of plant-based foods and plant proteins and the bottlenecks associated with their production
• Strong scientific writing skills and ability to communicate effectively to both scientific audiences and science-interested lay audiences
• Motivation to learn about new topics
• Strong plant protein characterization expertise
• Ability to perform independent, self-paced work
• A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Strong support for GFI’s philosophy and mission; demonstrated interest in plant-based & other alt proteins, public health, environmentalism, climate change, animal protection, or hunger relief

Responsibilities

• Developing a lecture for GFI’s free online course focused on the characterization of alternative protein end products and ingredients
• Co-authoring an updated plant-based landing page and end product formulation and manufacturing page on our GFI science web pages through literature reviews
• Updating our plant-based literature library to contain recent, relevant literature and patents by conducting literature reviews and analysis
