Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 5-7+ years of experience in RF system design and development for aerospace applications
- Demonstrated experience with RF systems design and link budgets
- Hands-on experience with RF test equipment, such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators
- Advanced experience in Altium Designer or RF simulation software (Matlab, HFSS, etc)
- Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State
Responsibilities
- Lead the rapid design, development, and testing of high-reliability RF and communications systems for spacecraft engineering and development efforts
- Drive requirements capture, component selection, analysis, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test for electrical designs
- Analysis includes link budgets, antenna coverage, antenna patterns, and data link rates
- Oversee the selection and integration of RF components, including power amplifiers, filters, mixers, and oscillators, into spacecraft systems
- Perform system-level integration of RF and electrical subsystems, including hardware and software interfaces
- Perform first article testing, unit level testing, and production testing
- Support hardware through production, integration, and launch
- Work with experts from other teams and departments to drive changes that make the system more efficient, manufacturable, and reliable and to ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and quality assurance processes
- Define validation approach and create development and qualification testing campaigns to exercise designs to their limits and ensure reliable hardware
- Develop and maintain documentation for electrical systems and components, including design specifications, test plans, and operating procedures
- Participate in all aspects of the product development lifecycle, from concept and requirements definition to product release and post-release support
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on the team
- Continuously improve electrical engineering processes and practices to drive innovation and efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in aerospace or electrical engineering or related field
- Experience with software-defined radios (SDRs) and their application in space communication systems
- Knowledge of space communication protocols, including CCSDS, DVB-S2, and others
- Experience with simulation tools such as SPICE, MATLAB, and Simulink
- Expertise in satellite communication link optimization, including Doppler shift compensation and error correction coding
- Experience with regulatory filing committeeβs and processes
- Experience in antenna design, harness design, and PCB design
- Experience with encryption algorithms, preferable NSA type 1
- Experience with file transfer protocols and memory storage
- Proven track record of innovation in RF system design, including compact antenna development
- Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting
