Summary
Join finmid's growing team in Ireland as a Risk Manager, playing a crucial role in establishing and leading the risk management function for our new subsidiary. You will be a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the Head of Risk in Berlin. This role involves developing and implementing risk management frameworks, monitoring and assessing risks across various areas, ensuring compliance with Irish and European regulations, and presenting risk analysis reports to senior management. You will also be responsible for developing business continuity and incident response plans. The ideal candidate possesses extensive risk management experience in the fintech or financial services sector, strong knowledge of risk frameworks and modeling, and advanced communication skills. This is a remote or on-site position based in Ireland.
Requirements
- Extensive Risk Management Experience: A solid track record in risk management within high-growth technology, financial services, or fintech sectors
- Expertise in Risk Frameworks and Modeling: Comprehensive knowledge of risk modeling, policy design, and reporting, including defining risk appetite and limits, developing PD/LGD/EAD models, and monitoring credit risk metrics
- Educational and Professional Credentials: A master’s degree in finance, risk management, or a related discipline is required
- Strategic and Operational Expertise: Proven ability to design and implement risk management models, address operational vulnerabilities, and effectively handle conflicts of interest
- Leadership and Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions, make sound decisions, and lead cross-departmental teams
- Regulatory Knowledge: Exceptional understanding of Irish and European financial regulations (e.g., PSD2, ECSPR), with the ability to ensure compliance while fostering business growth
- Advanced Communication Skills: Outstanding presentation skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights, tailored to diverse audiences. Adept at crafting clear, concise narratives from quantitative analyses, supported by strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Regulatory Agility: Capacity to navigate and adapt to complex regulatory landscapes while driving strategic initiatives and maintaining compliance
- Balanced Vision: Skilled at aligning immediate business needs with long-term strategic goals, ensuring sustainable growth
- Project Execution Excellence: Proven ability to manage and execute complex projects independently, delivering on expectations within challenging timelines
Responsibilities
- Coordinate with the risk team in Berlin to develop and implement scalable methods and frameworks to identify, measure, and control end-to-end risks across the user lifecycle. This will involve identifying and helping build crucial risk management systems including in-product and back-end controls, use of third-party risk assessment tools, and implementation of rule-based and model-based detection systems that align with the company's objectives and regulatory requirements
- Monitor and assess risks through a comprehensive overview of credit, operational, and IT infrastructure, ensuring mitigation strategies are in place
- Lead compliance initiatives, ensuring all operations and processes adhere to Central Bank of Ireland standards and other relevant regulatory guidelines
- Together with the risk team in Berlin prepare and present risk analysis reports to senior management and other stakeholders at finmid group, and regulators
- Develop and implement business continuity and incident response plans to address operational risks effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced certifications such as FRM or CFA are highly desirable
- Technical Skills: Experience with SQL or a willingness to learn is a strong advantage, supporting data-driven decision-making and risk analysis
