Summary

Join iHerb as a Senior Accountant, Freight Operations and manage the comprehensive accounting for all inbound and outbound freight activities. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of freight-related financial data by managing end-to-end accounting for domestic and international freight expenses. Develop and maintain procedures for freight cost allocation, execute accounting duties per SOPs, and perform regular audits of freight charges. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on freight spend, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and document and perform internal controls. Collaborate with internal and external partners, and participate in month-end close procedures and system UAT. This role requires strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, along with 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in freight accounting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (specifically advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, complex formulas, data modeling)
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years specifically focused on freight, transportation, or logistics accounting in a complex, high-volume environment
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks, including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end accounting for all domestic and international freight expenses, including inbound, transfers, and outbound shipments (including 3PLs)
  • Ensure accurate G/L coding, validation, and timely processing of freight invoices from various carriers and logistics providers, including reviewing freight information and reconciliations performed by our third-party freight audit and payment vendor
  • Develop and maintain procedures for freight cost allocation to appropriate general ledger accounts, inventory, or cost of goods sold
  • Execute all accounting-specific duties per relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring accurate financial tracking, cost recording (accrued and actual), validation/remediation of invoice posting errors, and compliance across all freight modes and types
  • Perform regular audits of freight charges against contracts and rate agreements to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Actively participate in month-end close procedures, including the preparation and posting of journal entries and account reconciliations, while ensuring completeness and accuracy
  • Serve as the primary finance point of contact for freight-related inquiries from internal departments and external partners (freight carriers, 3PLs, third-party freight audit vendor)
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with the Global Logistics team to understand operational activities impacting freight costs, the Accounts Payable (AP) team to ensure accurate and timely payments, and the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team for variance analysis
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on freight spend, identifying trends, variances, and KPIs and review dashboards to provide visibility into freight costs for stakeholders in finance, logistics, and procurement
  • Provide variance analysis of actual freight costs versus planned costs including explanations
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to develop freight cost estimates
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations for all freight-related accounts
  • Document and perform internal controls, including SOX compliance
  • Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system changes impacting freight accounting and identify process improvements
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests

Preferred Qualifications

  • G-Suite, SAP, Blackline
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and/or freight audit systems
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
