Senior Accountant, SEC Reporting

Summary

Join Oportun's finance team as a Senior Accountant specializing in SEC Reporting. This role involves preparing, reviewing, and ensuring compliance of SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q, earnings materials) with U.S. GAAP and internal policies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, maintain accurate documentation, and monitor changes in accounting standards and regulations. The ideal candidate possesses strong accounting experience, preferably with Big Four public accounting experience, and holds a CPA or equivalent certification. Exceptional attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and flexibility are crucial for success in this position.

Requirements

• A minimum of two years of general accounting experience
• Four-year bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Strong experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, etc.)
• Ability to meet strict deadlines
• Extreme attention to details
• Ability to prioritize multiple functions and work with limited supervision
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to work well and collaborate with internal and external partners

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation, tie out, and review SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and earnings materials, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and internal policies
• Assist in drafting and reviewing footnotes, MD&A, and other sections of financial statements
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, investor relations, and external auditors, to gather and validate financial data
• Maintain accurate supporting documentation and schedules for all disclosures
• Monitor and analyze changes in accounting standards and SEC regulations, assessing their impact on financial reporting
• Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of quarterly earnings releases and related supporting materials

Preferred Qualifications

• Big four public accounting experience preferred
• Certified public accountant, or equivalency, preferred
