Summary
Join Oportun, a mission-driven fintech company, as a Personal Loan Accountant. This role focuses on the accurate handling of day-to-day accounting processes related to personal loan products. You will record and reconcile transactions, investigate and resolve issues, prepare schedules, and perform analysis for financial reporting. A strong understanding of accounting concepts and a proactive approach to process improvement are essential. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of general accounting experience
- Four-year bachelorβs degree in accounting
- Strong experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, etc.)
- Ability to meet strict deadlines
- Extreme attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple functions and work with limited supervision
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work well and collaborate with internal and external partners

Responsibilities
- Prepare journal entries for closing the books, ensuring compliance with accounting standards
- Prepare and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts related to loans on the general ledger
- Prepare assigned loan schedules for internal and external (SEC) reporting
- Conduct month-over-month flux analysis and provide written explanations of significant variances
- Prepare loan-related schedules for audit and SOX compliance
- Support process improvements through automation and implement enhancements
- Assist with ad hoc accounting/finance projects as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Big four public accounting experience
- Certified public accountant (CPA)
