Senior Accountant

Summary

Join Oportun, a mission-driven fintech company, as a Personal Loan Accountant. This role focuses on the accurate handling of day-to-day accounting processes related to personal loan products. You will record and reconcile transactions, investigate and resolve issues, prepare schedules, and perform analysis for financial reporting. A strong understanding of accounting concepts and a proactive approach to process improvement are essential. This position requires attention to detail and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of general accounting experience
• Four-year bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Strong experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, etc.)
• Ability to meet strict deadlines
• Extreme attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize multiple functions and work with limited supervision
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work well and collaborate with internal and external partners
• Positive attitude and ability to adapt to change

Responsibilities

• Prepare journal entries for closing the books, ensuring compliance with accounting standards
• Prepare and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts related to loans on the general ledger
• Prepare assigned loan schedules for internal and external (SEC) reporting
• Conduct month-over-month flux analysis and provide written explanations of significant variances
• Prepare loan-related schedules for audit and SOX compliance
• Support process improvements through automation and implement enhancements
• Assist with ad hoc accounting/finance projects as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Big four public accounting experience
• Certified public accountant (CPA)
