Senior Backend Engineer

Summary

Join Quora's Creators team as a Senior Backend Engineer and help shape the future of Poe, our rapidly growing AI product. You will work at the forefront of the AI ecosystem, empowering bot creators and developers by building abstractions and tooling to accelerate bot onboarding, collaborating with LLM providers, and improving our external API. This high-impact role offers direct visibility into how creators build and scale on Poe. As a senior engineer, you will drive feature planning and backend implementation, contributing to a fast-paced, cross-functional product cycle. Quora is a remote-first company, and this position can be performed remotely from multiple countries. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and on-call responsibilities to ensure Poe's reliability.

Requirements

• Availability for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's “ coordination hours " (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)
• 5+ years of experience working with large scale codebases and systems, particularly web applications
• 3+ years experience in Python or similar programming language
• A passion for learning and always improving yourself and the team around you
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (design, product, data science, QA, and engineering) to advise on product roadmap and create innovative features and user experiences for bot creators
• Iterate on our developer APIs using best practices for performance and reliability
• Be a champion for both user experience and for sustainable, scalable code practices
• Collaborate closely with LLM providers to easily integrate new LLMs on Poe
• Participate in on-call responsibilities to ensure Poe provides a reliable and high quality product
