Senior BI Engineer

Summary

Join Thyme Care's Provider Data Science team as a Senior BI Engineer to build and maintain a strong analytical foundation in Looker. You will model data, develop explores, and deliver dashboards and reports to understand and improve the business. Collaborate with Product, Clinical, and Network Operations teams to identify and track pharmacy opportunities and provider-related incentive models. Enhance analytics for internal customers through documentation and training. Gain a deep understanding of the business and translate stakeholder needs into data models. Develop and execute a roadmap for a scalable analytics platform. Build dashboards and reports for both business and clinical stakeholders. Troubleshoot data issues to ensure accurate and performant analytics. This role requires deep Looker development experience, strong SQL skills, and excellent communication skills.

Requirements

• Deep experience (5+ years) working as a Looker developer building views, explores, models, and final dashboards / reports
• Strong SQL skills and a familiarity with, or willingness to learn, dbt
• A bias for transparency and partnership with stakeholders, balancing building it “right” vs building what’s needed “right now”
• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
• Excitement about joining a fast-moving startup that iterates quickly and prioritizes delivery

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a strong analytical foundation in Looker
• Model data and develop intuitive explores in Looker
• Deliver consistent and performant dashboards and reports
• Collaborate with Product, Clinical, and Network Operations teams to identify, size and track pharmacy opportunities and provider-related incentive models
• Improve analytics for internal customers with ongoing documentation and training efforts
• Gain a deep understanding of our business and key stakeholders, and translate their actions and questions into intuitive and illuminating data models
• Work alongside a team of data scientists and data analysts to develop systems to organize and maintain high value analytics and reporting assets (KPIs, customer-facing metrics, etc.)
• Play a key role in developing and executing on a roadmap to further build out a modular and scalable analytics platform
• Develop documentation and training materials to improve the data fluency and Looker comfort of our internal customers
• Build canonical and one-off exploratory dashboards for business and clinical stakeholders
• Build customer-facing reports and coordinate with business operations teams on specifications, deliveries, and ongoing troubleshooting
• Troubleshoot data model and reporting issues, ensuring accurate, up-to-date, and performant analytics are always available to support decision-making

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience working with healthcare operations data (claims, prior auth, EHR, scheduling, etc.)
• Experience with large healthcare datasets, ideally in a health plan or healthcare-focused technology startup developing mature data structures and pipelines
• Proficiency in data modeling, analytics, and BI tools
• Familiarity with dbt
• Successful track record working at scaling organizations, in fast-paced environments, and at ambitious startups
• Navigate through challenges and find solutions in uncertain situations
