Senior Character Animator

Summary

Join Flo, the world’s #1 health app, as a Character Animator to create compelling animations for in-app experiences, social media, and product storytelling. This 6-month contract role offers a competitive day rate and the chance to contribute to a mission-driven team. You will be responsible for creating engaging 2D/3D character animations, collaborating with various teams, and adapting your work for multiple platforms. The ideal candidate possesses 5+ years of experience in character animation, expertise in expressive motion, and proficiency in tools like Adobe After Effects or Rive. This is a contractor role, therefore not eligible for employee benefits.

Requirements

• A strong portfolio or reel showcasing your character animation work (including a breakdown)
• 5+ years of experience in character animation, ideally within a creative tech, gaming, or product environment
• Expertise in expressive motion: emotion, gesture, timing, humor, and storytelling
• Solid understanding of animation fundamentals: weight, spacing, staging, appeal
• Experience using tools such as Adobe After Effects, Rive, or similar
• The ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a fast-moving, cross-functional environment

Responsibilities

• Creating engaging 2D/3D characters and animations that connect with users and enhance learning and awareness
• Contributing to the evolution of Flo’s visual identity and character-driven storytelling
• Collaborating closely with Product, Content, Brand, and Engineering teams to bring ideas to life
• Thinking across touchpoints – in-app, social, video, web – adapting your work for multiple formats and audiences
• Owning animation projects end-to-end, from early concept and rough passes to polished final renders
• Staying aligned with timelines, tools, and technical pipelines while pushing for creative excellence

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience mentoring or giving feedback to other animators
• Familiarity with shipping animations in product environments (e.g. Lottie/JSON pipelines)
• Passion for building more inclusive, accessible, and engaging visual content for diverse audiences
