Summary
Join Veolia North America as a Senior Commissioning Project Manager in the Mission Critical department, managing multimillion-dollar projects for clients in Data Centers, Financial Institutions, and Power Plants across North America. Lead teams of employees, subcontractors, and vendors to execute critical systems infrastructure projects. Serve as a technical subject matter expert, developing procedures and testing scripts for power, hydraulic, and cooling systems. Participate in complex system tests, provide technical assessments, and develop best practices. Manage technical resources, develop training resources, and lead client meetings. Prepare proposals, assist with departmental budgets, and review documentation from contractors and vendors. Extensive travel (40β70% annually) is required, primarily Mondays and Fridays, with on-site work mid-week. The ideal candidate will work remotely from Toronto, Canada.
Requirements
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the Mechanical/Thermal industry
- Bachelorβs degree is preferred, but an Associate degree from relevant technical programs will be considered
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience are acceptable
- 5β10 years of experience in commissioning complex installations and solving construction/operational problems
- Proven experience managing design, energy services, and commissioning projects within scope, budget, and schedule
- Familiarity with NETA, ASHRAE, LEED, and other building codes and industry standards
- Comprehensive understanding of Mission Critical systems related to MEP equipment in Data Centers and Power Plants
- Mechanical: Proficiency in mechanical/thermal systems, such as HVAC equipment, chiller plants, evaporative cooling, CRAHs, CRACs, VFDs and pumping systems
- Knowledge of plant control systems (BMS, SCADA, PLCs) and communication protocols (TCP/IP, Modbus, Canbus)
- Familiarity with instrumentation for PID control loops
- Self-motivated with experience in MEP systems design, commissioning, retrocommissioning, and energy modeling for complex buildings
- Ability to perform construction observations, develop functional test plans, and execute tests for electrical and control systems
- Strong people and negotiation skills, time management, and problem-solving abilities
- Capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Fiscal awareness and ability to mentor direct reports
- If needed, be able to interview and participate in the selection of candidates to fill direct report positions
Responsibilities
- Serve as a Senior Commissioning Project Manager within a team of qualified professionals and degreed engineers
- Manage subcontractors and client vendors on a project-by-project basis
- Assign project tasks and schedules
- Act as a technical subject matter expert for complex mission-critical projects
- Develop procedures, methods, and testing scripts for power, hydraulic, and cooling systems for Data Centers, Financial Institutions, and Power Plants
- Participate in complex and high risk system tests across mission critical projects, contributing to proper planning and risk mitigation
- Provide technical assessments and recommendations for improvement for major project reports
- Develop best practices and lessons learned databases for implementation of commissioning processes and field testing procedures
- Manage other technical resources and direct their participation on Veolia/ Veolia projects in the US and Canada
- Develop training resources for field commissioning teams, create and populate training databases, and ensure new and existing employees have exposure to training modules
- Lead client meetings, schedules, and issue resolution processes
- Prepare proposals for client RFPs and project pricing requests
- Assist with departmental budgets, KPIs, and financial planning for the Canadian region
- Review and ensure the accuracy of documentation from contractors, subcontractors, and vendors
- Oversee and validate the work of subcontractors on client projects
Preferred Qualifications
- P.Eng licensed in the U.S. or Canada (EIT or equivalent professional engineering membership accepted); preferred but not essential
- C.E.T. or equivalent with extensive commissioning experience
- LEED Associate and PMP certification preferred but not mandatory
- Canadian CSA Z462 Electrical Safety qualification or U.S. NFPA 70E equivalent
- Infrared Thermography certification preferred
- Proficiency in computer skills
