Summary

Join Timmons Group as a Senior Business Analyst to contribute to custom application and data analytics projects within the Solutions Development team. This remote position involves the full software development life cycle, focusing on data management for Natural Heritage Programs. You will gather and manage requirements, document user stories, and collaborate with internal teams and clients. Experience with Esri ArcGIS and spatial data management is essential. The role includes leading discovery sessions, mapping workflows, and translating complex needs into user stories. You will also mentor junior team members and contribute to proposal writing and RFP responses.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in business analysis or product ownership roles for enterprise software projects, especially within Natural Heritage Programs or related domains
  • Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Demonstrated success leading discovery workshops with natural resource clients
  • Strong presence in workshops and executive settings, with a clear focus on aligning priorities to programmatic and scientific goals
  • Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum; skilled in breaking down business objectives into epics, features, and user stories
  • Proficient in Azure DevOps or similar for backlog and release management
  • Familiarity with Esri ArcGIS and workflows related to element tracking, EO data, and species observation datasets
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; capable of prioritizing across complex workstreams
  • Confident in providing constructive feedback and leading decision-making discussions

Responsibilities

  • Translate Natural Heritage Program needs (e.g., element tracking, species observations, EO management) into clear, testable user stories to ensure alignment between client SMEs and developers
  • Analyze and present trade-offs (scope, timeline, tech debt vs. new capability) to product owners and support value-based decision-making
  • Act as the go-to contact for the development team, clarifying requirements and resolving ambiguities to keep work progressing smoothly
  • Lead discovery, journey mapping, and backlog refinement sessions with a focus on data management workflows
  • Manage and continuously refine the backlog; lead refinement and sprint planning meetings; maintain visibility into dependencies and definitions of done
  • Provide clear and regular updates to both technical and field staff stakeholders; maintain up-to-date documentation and reporting
  • Develop training and communication strategies to support the adoption of updated workflows and systems focused on EO and species observation data
  • Author process flows, user stories, and acceptance criteria aligned with Natural Heritage Program goals and data management needs
  • Assist project team members in testing, design, and training to meet overall project goals and deadlines
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members
  • Support client relationship development and help secure ongoing work with existing partners
  • Contribute to proposal writing and RFP responses
